Sukumar Ruj is a distinguished figure in modern Bengali and English literature. Born in 1963 in West Bengal, India, he has been actively engaged in literary pursuits since 1988. He continues to write poetry, short stories (in both Bengali and English), novels, and essays for a wide range of journals and periodicals, both in India and abroad. To date, he has published 35 books.
His stories draw effortlessly from the many layers of rural and urban social life. Within his narratives, readers encounter not only the fragrance of fresh earth and wildflowers, but also the anguished voices of individuals from elite society, caught in the turbulent currents of city life. His works offer sharp and perceptive portrayals of political issues, social crises, and moral decline.

He has received over a hundred awards and honors from various organizations across India, Bangladesh, and the United States. He also regularly participates in literary programs broadcast by Akashvani Kolkata and Kolkata Doordarshan.
